A career rooted in creativity
For Aromaa, the path toward industrial design was a natural one. “Creative work has always inspired me, and I had been drawn towards creative outlets ever since I was a child,” he says. “In high school, my art teacher introduced me to the world of industrial design and mentioned that it could be studied at TAIK (now Aalto University), Finland’s leading school of design and arts. That has stuck with me.” That early interest blossomed into a career built on designing objects, identities, and experiences that connect form and function with user needs and environmental values. With almost 30 years of experience under their belt, Pentagon Design today stands as one of Finland’s most respected design consultancies known for various partnerships with esteemed brands.
The start of something special
The collaboration between Pentagon and Mysoda began in 2018 with a meeting between Aromaa and Mysoda’s CEO, David Solomon. “We met with David, who was looking for a design partner. The chemistry was great from the start, and we immediately felt this could grow into a long-term, meaningful partnership.”
That intuition turned out to be spot on. Over the years, the partnership has delivered standout products like Ruby and Glassy, both of which showcase the hallmarks of Pentagon’s philosophy: minimalism, function-driven form, and sustainable relevance. Furthermore, these products have received multiple prestigious awards for their excellent design and are seen as the staples of Mysoda’s brand. Designing for balance and longevity
What inspires Aromaa’s design process most is the challenge of balance.
“In industrial design, you're always solving a multidimensional puzzle,” he explains. “You need to bring aesthetics, usability, sustainability, and manufacturability into harmony. It’s that moment when all the pieces just click. That’s when you know you’ve created something great.” At Pentagon, this process is guided by a clear philosophy: design with relevance. “It’s about responding to real user needs and thinking long-term; environmentally, commercially, and emotionally,” Aromaa notes. “Our approach borrows from Japanese design thinking: we strip away anything unnecessary until only what’s essential remains. We always ask ourselves: Is this the minimum the product needs to function optimally?”
The making of Glassy
One of the most iconic outcomes of this partnership is Glassy, which is Mysoda’s award-winning sparkling water maker made from wood composite and aluminium. Its design challenged conventional materials and form factors in the industry. “It was exciting to work with wood composite, it behaves similarly to plastic, which made the design process smooth,” Aromaa says. “One of the core design challenges was the glass bottle: we knew it had to be fully enclosed for both safety and elegance.”
When approaching the product’s form, functionality led the way.
“We wanted something different from what already existed on the market. Designing the carbonation to happen in a sealed chamber became a turning point. Suddenly, the clean cylindrical shape made perfect sense. That’s when things clicked.” The signature rotating door and the intuitive mechanism that powers Glassy aren’t just aesthetic choices; they embody Pentagon’s belief that form follows function.
Designing for the future
Sustainability is not a trend for Pentagon—it’s the baseline.
“Longevity is the most powerful environmental act in product design,” Aromaa says. “If a product lasts, it has a smaller footprint. That’s something we’ve always prioritized.” With Mysoda, this commitment is shared. Both companies strive for designs that don’t just look good today but remain relevant and durable for years to come. “Our aim has always been to design the world’s best sparkling water maker together. In many ways, we envisioned that it should be thought of as a second tap in the kitchen, or a fixture, not a gadget. Mysoda and David’s early vision was ambitious, and that really made an impression on us.”
Looking ahead
Pentagon Design continues to explore exciting new projects with Mysoda and beyond.
“We’re seeing great interest in Mysoda’s design approach, and especially in how we’ve used materials like wood composite and aluminium. It’s encouraging to see that ripple effect in the industry.”
When asked about what the future holds, Aromaa teases more to come:
“There are plenty of interesting and innovative things ahead. Mysoda’s brand concept will stay consistent, but we’re always evolving. With Mysoda, the shared mindset continues to shape every new development. That makes all the difference.”
As Mysoda grows, our company philosophy remains grounded in collaboration, purpose, and timeless aesthetics.
Thanks to visionary partners like Pentagon Design, we're proud to bring you products that aren’t just beautiful, but meaningful, too.
