Mysoda has completed scope 1-3 group-wide carbon footprint calculations as well as emissions figures for nearly all our products in accordance with the GHG Protocol (The GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard & Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard). We are happy to share that the results of the calculations announced earlier this year are finally available. The reports are full of interesting findings and indicate areas of development on which our team has already started working. Read on and we will share some insights and sneak peeks into what is happening at Mysoda in terms of sustainability at the moment.
Key findings
It is important for us to work on reducing emissions throughout the whole lifecycle of our products and within our operations as a first priority. After all, cutting emissions even before they are created is better than trying to mitigate adverse effects afterwards.
Mysoda goes beyond selling products that help to reduce single use plastic bottles and thereby plastic waste in private homes. We also want to offer products that are sustainable in their own right. We have started on this journey some years ago when launching the first sparkling water maker made almost entirely from renewable-based materials.
Now it is time to look at all the other aspects of our business to make our products even more sustainable. As the data shows, total emissions of the whole Mysoda Group in 2022 amounted to 7024 t CO2e. As a small company with relatively few employees this naturally results in rather high emissions of 293 t CO2e per employee. The largest share of emissions comes from purchased goods and services as well as scope 3, which refers to assets the company does not own but has indirect influence on. We have already started work to reduce our emissions in the areas identified in the emissions reports where actions will have the biggest impact, such as packaging, product components and choice of raw materials. The reports show us that even with small but well targeted changes we will be able to significantly reduce emissions of our best-selling sparkling water maker Woody. We will start production of the improved Woody version in August.
Changes to Mysoda’s CO2 business
The results have also shown that our business with CO2 cylinders constitutes a very large share of total emissions across the whole Mysoda Group. We are therefore particularly excited to share the news of our cooperation with Linde Gas AB. Part of our cooperation is the introduction of net zero biogenic CO2 instead of CO2 sourced as industrial residue. Mysoda is currently filling its CO2 cylinders with CO2 that is collected as a residue from the fertilizer industry. The introduction of biogenic gas will make Mysoda’s gas products even more sustainable as it will effectively reduce carbon emissions of our cylinders’ fillings to zero. Net zero biogenic CO2 will become available all markets Mysoda operates in by October 2024. Product specific emissions figures and breakdowns have already been published in our online shop.
