Bio-CO2

Taking sustainable bubbles one step further

A Mysoda Cio-CO2 cylinder

0% emissions - 100% fizz!

With the introduction of Bio-CO2 we stay true to our mission to make home carbonation and drinking sparkling water as sustainable as possible. Enjoy the same high-quality gas product while decreasing your carbon footprint. Bio-CO2 stems from a natural cycle of CO2 from the atmosphere being stored in biomass and released again. No more CO2 is released into than was previously stored during plant growth, making Bio-CO2 a net-zero alternative to other CO2 products for sparkling water makers on the market.

Good to know

Familiar quality

All Mysoda CO2 cylinders contain high-quality, purified, food-grade carbon dioxide. When switching to Bio-CO2 you can enjoy the same level of quality - just without the carbon footprint. Your carbonated drinks stay just as fizzy and delicious as ever.

Zero emissions

Bio-CO2 is extracted from the natural cycle of carbon being stored in plant matter during plant growth and released again into the atmosphere. Tapping into this process means using Bio-CO2 does not release more CO2 into the atmosphere than already was in circulation. No carbon stored in fossil resources is released. CO2 is just temporarily captured for you to enjoy some delicious, guilt-free fizzy drinks.

Compatible with all Mysoda devices

While we are switching to a more sustainable gas product, the cylinders holding the gas remain exactly the same. The classic screw-in mechanism is compatible with all Mysoda sparkling water maker models as well as with sparkling water makers of many other manufacturers like Aarke, Sodapop, Aga, and Sodastream (except Sodastream models using Quick Connect cylinders) that use the same screw-in system.

You can continue to exchange your Mysoda Bio-Co2 cylinders at any local store carrying screw-in cylinders.

Filled using renewable energy

For filling our CO2 cylinders we only use 100% renewable energy. This applies to both our own filling plants as well as our partners' filling operations. For parts of our supply chain, transportation with renewable fuels has also been implemented and remaining transport emissions are compensated.

How production processes for bio-co2 and co2 from fossile raw materials differ

Where does bio-co2 come from?

All this might seem very technical to you, and it is: Decreasing carbon emissions requires technical innovation. But don't worry, we have broken the process down for you. Bio-CO2 is extracted as a sidestream from bioethanol production. That means it is extracted from a rather quick natural cycle of carbon storage during plant growth and release into the atmosphere during plant decay. In contrast to traditional methods of extracting CO2, this process does not use fossil resources nor release additional CO2 previously captured in fossil resources into the atmosphere. Previously, CO2 could be sourced more sustainably by making use of sidestrams of e.g. fertilizer production, ultimately making use of waste that is created in other industries regardless. By utilizing advanced technology, it is now possible for us to cut out fossil raw materials entirely, creating a fully renewable-based product: Bio-CO2.
